Critical properties of highly frustrated pyrochlore antiferromagnets.
We argue that the analysis of Reimers et al. (1992)] of their Monte Carlo data on the Heisenberg pyrochlore antiferromag-net, which suggests a new universality class, is not conclusive. By re-analysis of their data, we demonstrate asymptotic volume dependence in some ther-modynamic quantities, which suggests the possibility that the transition may be first order.
متن کاملDepleted pyrochlore antiferromagnets
I consider the class of “depleted pyrochlore” lattices of corner-sharing triangles, made by removing spins from a pyrochlore lattice such that every tetrahedron loses exactly one. Previously known examples are the “hyperkagome” and “kagome staircase”. I give criteria in terms of loops for whether a given depleted lattice can order analogous to the kagome “ √ 3× √ 3” state, and also show how the...
متن کاملCritical slowing down in the geometrically frustrated pyrochlore antiferromagnet Gd2Ti2O7
Longitudinal-field muon spin relaxation experiments have been carried out in the paramagnetic state of singlecrystal Gd2Ti2O7 just above the phase transition at Tm = 1.0 K. At high applied fields the exponential relaxation time T1 is proportional to field, whereas T1 saturates below a crossover field Bc that is ∼2.5 T at 1.5 K and decreases as Tm is approached. At low fields the relaxation rate...
متن کاملImpurity effects in highly frustrated diamond-lattice antiferromagnets
We consider the effects of local impurities in highly frustrated diamond-lattice antiferromagnets, which exhibit large but nonextensive ground-state degeneracies. Such models are appropriate to many A-site magnetic spinels. We argue very generally that sufficiently dilute impurities induce an ordered magnetic ground state and provide a mechanism of degeneracy breaking. The states that are selec...
متن کاملUniversal magnetic properties of frustrated quantum antiferromagnets in two dimensions.
We present a theory of frustrated, two-dimensional, quantum antiferromagnets in the vicinity of a quantum transition from a non-collinear, magneticallyordered ground state to a quantum-disordered phase. Using a sigma-model for bosonic, spin-1/2, spinon fields, we obtain universal scaling forms for a variety of observables. Our results are compared with numerical data on the spin-1/2 triangular ...
